Indian architectural practice MOFA is set to realise its proposal of the new campus of National Institute of Fashion Design (NIFT), which won a national design competition in 2009. Located at Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, the new campus is perched on a steep hilly terrain, surrounded by existing banyan, mango and silver oak trees. The concept begins with understanding fashion design as an art form, which is expressed through visual graphic with textual quality. Designed through a cellular growth of cubes over the contoured topography, a girl's hostel and residences for professors will be intersticed with light courts, providing a total of 200 rooms. The new campus is also designed to be self sustainable and with zero discharge, meaning solid watses, storm water and sewage will all be used within the system.
